Background
A research idea only turns into a real venture if someone actually needs what you’re building. Customer interviews are how you find out. An AI will write you a decent interview guide in seconds, and it will synthesize the answers just as fast, sycophantically confirming what you hoped to hear. So none of that is where it gets hard: You need your interviewee to open up and be honest instead of polite, and you need to stop yourself from defending your idea when it doesn’t hold up and inquire instead. No AI can do that part for you. That’s what we practice here.
Target audience
Designed for aspiring entrepreneurs and curious scientists who want to understand how to gather and work with qualitative insights. Also well-suited for people from Helmholtz transfer and talent-management offices who support potential entrepreneurs at their institution.
Sidenote: We do hands-on work in pairs, so be prepared to actively engage.
Benefits
Why customer interviews matter more now that anyone can generate a guide, and why they decide who gets useful answers.
The part of interviewing an AI can’t do for you: getting people to open up, spotting your own confirmation bias, and taking contradictions seriously instead of smoothing them over.
Hands-on: you run a real interview in a safe practice round, then we unpack what happened.
A guide template and a prompt to reuse for your own case, so we can spend our time together on the human part.
The mistakes almost everyone makes in their first interviews (I’ve made most of them myself), and how to dodge them.
